Boston Flower and Garden Show 2012 Award Winning Photograph

With great delight and pride, last week I learned that my photograph, pictured above, was awarded a Ribbon at the Boston Flower and Garden Show. Spring Awakening, as I named my image, was awarded second place in the category “Through the Looking Glass” – A Macro Color Portrait of a Plant.

The photograph, taken on an early spring morning, epitomizes spring. The image catches a brief window, like that of spring, when the garden is about to bloom, but has not yet bloomed. Like so much in the garden, the moment of the photograph was serendipitous. Had I not been in the garden that morning, had I gone out later in the day, or the next day, I would have missed this moment of anticipation. But I was in the garden that morning, I did have my camera with me, and best gift of all, I saw the potential photograph in this uncategorized state of being. I see such poignancy in this image. It is not a bud, it is not a bloom, it is in its moment of being, so often overlooked by those who want the potential of a bud or the beauty of a bloom. There is great beauty in all stages, if we take the time to look.

  1. Not only is the photo gorgeous but this idea of capturing something in it’s moment of being is what is magnificient. “There is great beauty in all stages, if we take the time to look.”

Makes me realize how things in their beingness are beautiful and the way we look at things are another reflection of how beautiful things are. Thanks for sharing both.
